BMW 2002 ti 167010 Alpina
Title: Color: Chamonix
History: US chassis car, with all the right stickers in the engine compartment, shipped to Alpina in July, 1970. Alpina built the engine to 160 DIN HP with 10.5:1 pistons, DCOE carbs, 300 cam, etc. Full Alpina/ti suspension, shorter springs, Koni shocks, vented rotors, quick steering box, 5-speed. Alpina gauges, Momo Alpina wheel, sport seats. Borrani wheels and lots of Alpina badges. One of two cars imported by a Pan Am pilot who had a contact at the port of Miami. I found the car at a shop in Hialeah in 1982 and bought it from the original owner for $1200. There was a lot of stuff missing, but I was able to move bits and pieces from my '69 Euro '02. It was my DD for a lot of years, but in the last decade, thanks to the Internet, I have been able to bring it back a lot closer to original. It's still more of a survivor than restored. Paint and body work in the '80s, and the paint has held up well. I know this fabric was used about the time the e21 was introduced. I have a Miller & Norburn brochure showing Alpina stuff that features it. When I first got this car, "originaliy" and "collectibility" were not in my vocabulary. I had never given a lot of thought to it until recently. I have the ti drums. Lots of track time and autocrossing, and the car is beautifully balanced and brakes well. Never felt a need for rear disks. The AC is a Clardy kit made specifically for the 2002. Installed by the shop in Hialeah a few years after I bought the car. The original Becker Mexico is on the shelf in my garage. The Mexico has a separate amplifier unit that will not fit with the AC evaporator in place, so I finally obtained a Becker Europa which I installed last year. It occurs to me that I need to update that gallery of photos on the Alpina 2002 page. The seats have been recovered with reproduction Alpina fabric. Future of the car: maintaining and enjoying. The car does not need anything at this point. If something has to be changed, I will trend toward originality. Documents:
